Wynns Coonawarra John Riddoch Cabernet 1998 was purchased in its original wooden case from the personal cellar of the late John Avery MW. It is the definitive Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon (arguably the richest and most concentrated), and is only made in small quantities in exceptional vintages from less than 1% of the Cabernet crop.
First made in 1982, the John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon was conceived as a flagship wine for the Wynns portfolio. The wine honours pasturalist and parliamentarian John Riddoch, who was the largest landowner in South Australia’s southeast corner.
The 1998 vintage is an immensely powerful Cabernet, an absolute blockbuster, so concentrated with layer upon layer of sweet fruit bound by firm tannins and coffee-like oak.
