Tuscany, 2014

2014 was an average to good Tuscan vintage. A cool spring followed a mild but wet winter, and then a period of high temperatures, which brought about a good early fruit set.

However, just as vignerons were beginning to rub their warm, dry hands together, the summer growing season was rudely awakened by cooler temperatures and hailstorms, which caused widespread mildew. A dry and mild September/October saved the vintage, with some good, early-drinking wines made.
