Tuscany, 2012

2012 was an excellent vintage in Monlacino, Chianti Classico, Montepulciano and Bolgheri.

However, the growing season began with rain and more rain, causing uneven flowering and ultimately lower than average yields (30% below), while a heat wave in August resulted in some vines closing down. Winemakers who carried out meticulous soil and canopy management fared best, while rain at the end of August brought much needed relief. At harvest time, the key was to pick parcel by parcel according to ripeness.

Chianti and Montalcino were standout regions.
