Rhône Valley, 2012

2012 was a very good Rhône vintage, while France’s other main wine regions suffered.

In the northern Rhône wines have been described as user-friendly, with vignerons who worked hard to fight mildew from spring rains being rewarded. The best wines being classically elegant, ripe and juicy with intense aromas, good acidity and tannic structure.

The southern Rhône had an excellent time of it, with a short hot growing season contrasting with a cold February and damp spring. Grapes were concentrated with great acidity to balance, producing many wonderfully harmonious wines from Syrah and Grenache.
