Red Burgundy, 2014

2014 was a good red Burgundy vintage, characterized by the individuality of appellations and vineyards whose terroirs shone through in the purity of their wines.

More generally, if you wanted to try and apply a general vintage style, it would be fresh, soft, ripe and full of fruit and charm, rather than deep and structured – and should be drunk in the medium term (10-15 years) and before the 2013 vintage – giving immense pure drinking pleasure at a relatively younger age.

The year began with unseasonal mild weather, which was abruptly interrupted by localized hail in June (affecting quantity but not quality) and a mixed summer, followed by an Indian summer (with cool nights to preserve freshness) resulting in a slightly above average-sized crop.
