Red Burgundy, 1993

1993 was an average to good Burgundy vintage.

Pinot Noir was generally rich and tannic, and more Bordeaux-like than Burgundy in style, and despite the rains in September there was no rot. A few exceptional wines were made and many very good wines, although many lacked the necessary fruit to match tannin for ageing.

In general, Chardonnay tended to be dilute with little fruit and high acidity, but the best whites were quite elegant with refreshing acidity.
