Piedmont, 1994

1994 was another average Piedmont vintage, with many poor wines, although certain producers still managed to make good wines. A warmish summer growing season was marred by a cold, wet September.

The elite Barbaresco and Barolo producers managed to make some goodish, early drinking reds, but the majority lacked concentration and structure. The Roero district, which was spared the worst of the September rains, produced some excellent wines.
