New Zealand, 2012

In stark contrast to 2011, 2012 was one of the coolest New Zealand vintages on record affecting fruit sets and average yields were down by 20%.

In Marlborough and other Sauvignon regions, the varietal showed more old world characteristics of mown grass and citrus flavours instead of the classic kiwi tropical fruits. Pinot Noirs tended to be darker than usual with low alcohol, soft tannins and red fruit flavours.
