Médoc and Graves, 2016

2016 was a great Bordeaux vintage (comparable to 2005) on the Left Bank, with consistency of quality and quantity across all appellations, and particularly brilliant in Pauillac.

Very wet weather early in the year was followed by exceedingly dry conditions; hot, but not excessively so, with coolish nights, which produced a glut (the largest crop since 2006) of wonderfully medium- to full- bodied, concentrated rich, complex, fruit-laden wines with crisp acidity and freshness (courtesy of those cool nights) providing the all important balance.
