Estate Notes

Viña Von Siebenthal’s Carmenère Gran Reserva is an exciting new wine to our New World range – smoky, sweet and aromatic – a complex and elegant Bordeaux-inspired Chilean red from the Aconcagua Valley's finest vineyards.

We say Bordeaux-inspired, because the rarely seen Carmenère grape, which came from Bordeaux, thrives in the Aconcagua, which experiences long autumn months with very little precipitation.

The estate was established by in Panquehue in1998 Mauro von Siebenthal, a Swiss lawyer and wine aficionado, and in just two decades his team have had stunning success of producing rich, elegant reds redolent of the Aconcagua terroir.

Reviews

"The 2014 Carmenere from the Valle de Aconcagua contains 15% Cabernet Sauvignon from a warmer year than 2013, which provided more ripeness. It's quite herbal and spicy with a note from the American oak used for its élevage (one year in French and American barrels).” eRobertParker.com

Lovely smoky, sweet nose with tobacco leaf and black fruits, which flow into the mouth. Suave, sophisticated, elegant mouthfeel with some spice, mocha and a hint of vanilla oak adding complexity. Finishes long.
