Estate Notes

Vieux Chateau Certan 2002 was purchased in its original wooden case and is in excellent condition.

Under Alexandre Thienpont, the third generation proprietor of this 14 hectare estate, Vieux Château Certan, whose neighbours include Pétrus, has established itself as one of the most famous names in Pomerol.

Alexandre is a traditionalist at heart, and still carries out fermentation in large wooden vats; and employs restricted use of new oak, although he is open to modern techniques such as crop-thinning when he feels they are beneficial to the quality of his wines. Vieux Chateau Certan is crafted in an elegant, feminine style that seduces rather than dominates the palate.

"A terrific effort, this classic blend of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits a dark ruby/purple color as well as a complex bouquet of cedar, spice box, black cherries, and cassis. With impressive purity, medium body, moderate tannin, and a long finish..." Robert Parker

"Expressive aromas of mocha, game, tobacco and smoke. Moderately sweet and dense, with a supple texture for the year. And yet the wine's underlying minerality gives it a firmness and contributes to the impression of vinosity. Finishes with excellent length and no dryness." Stephen Tanzer
