Estate Notes

Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame 1990 comes in its own gift pack and yields from an excellent Champagne vintage, which produced a bumper crop of ripe, concentrated wines.

Veuve Clicquot is named after Nicole-Barbe Ponsardin and her husband Francois Clicquot (who died at just 30 in 1805). Nicole-Barbe made the bold move (at the time) of taking on the running of the House herself, and is responsible for ‘Veuve’ (lit. widow) appearing in the name of the House. A woman of great vision, her success in building the prestige of the House made her one of the most successful businesswomen of her time.

“I highly recommend the Veuve Clicquot 1990 La Grande Dame. It is exquisitely rich and accessible, yet bursting with potential.”

“Assertive and buttery style, dry and bold in flavor, but with the lively effervescence and toasty finish for balance.” Wine Spectator

“Pale orange-gold. Initially a bit tart on the nose and palate, but opened quickly to show rich, smooth fruit flavors, thorough ripeness of fruit and plenty of palate presence. Ripe, lingering back end. Big, dinner-table Champagne that should benefit from time in bottle.” Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar
