Estate Notes

Sassicaia 1997 is in good condition for the year.

Tenuta San Guido, situated on the western coast near Bolgheri, was brought under the holdings of Marchese Mario Incisa della Rocchetta in 1940. The Marchese took the pioneering move of introducing non-native varieties into the Sangiovese-dominated vineyards, such as Cabernets Sauvignon and Franc from vine cuttings taken from Bordeaux, and in doing so shaped a whole new generation of wines known as the Super-Tuscans – and thus revolutionising Italy’s image in the wine world.

Sassicaia has become synonymous with a standard of production that is without compromise, respected the world over.

“Dark ruby red. Blackberry, with lots of fresh herb and meat character. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and loads of fresh fruit and tarragon. Dill flavors on the finish. Textbook Sassicaia that grows in the mouth.” Wine Spectator

"...this dark ruby-colored Sassicaia exhibits moderate levels of ripeness, herbaceous black currant aromas and flavors, in addition to toasty new oak..." eRobertParker.com
