Estate Notes

The Symington Group bought the Quinta do Vesuvio (vineyard) in 1989, which is one of the greatest and most remote vineyard areas in the entire Douro.

Vesuvio makes port in both declared and non-declared vintages where the quality of the fruit is good enough. Fruit is still trodden by foot in stone lagares as tradition dictates, which makes the finest Ports.

Peter Symington chose just 52 pipes to bottle as Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage Port (a pipe is a 550 litre barrel).

"Loads of character in this one. You can almost smell the soil. Very powerful and impressive, with masses of tannins and medium sweetness. It shows opulent aromas and flavors of wet earth, green tea and berry." Wine Spectator

"The 1991's impressive color and flashy nose of pepper, spice, earth, black truffles, and black fruits, suggest a developed, forward character. Medium to full-bodied, with significant tannin and moderate sweetness, this 1991, although impressive, was almost overwhelmed in a blind, peer group tasting by some of the more rich and concentrated examples."
