Estate Notes

Screaming Eagle, Second Flight 2006 is in excellent condition and a rare opportunity to taste the super impressive first vintage of Screaming Eagle’s so-called 'second wine' - a great introduction to this Napa Valley cult legend.

Screaming Eagle was established by Jean Philips in 1992, making her very first vintage in a plastic rubbish bin from fruit sourced from a gentle, west-facing slope east of the Napa River, where intense heat is tempered by cool afternoon breezes. She took a sample of her her 'homemade' wine to Robert Mondavi, they bottled it and the rest, as they say is history. It is now owned by Stanley Kroenke.

”…a beautiful classy wine. Here the significant presence of Merlot (33%) helps to round out the Cabernet Sauvignon that is so distinctive in Screaming Eagle. Overall, this is a fairly generous expression of the year with plenty of the estate’s signatures. Over time, a compelling melange of savory herbs, spices and minerals comes alive in the glass. This is a super-impressive first vintage for Second Flight.” Robert Parker

”Fabulous intensity and energy in this young red with wet earth, violets, black currants, black olives, sweet tobacco and blackberries. So complex. Full-bodied with incredible depth and richness.” James Suckling

“The production of Screaming Eagle has remained between 700-1,000 cases, and a second wine, the Second Flight, includes 520-800 cases.”
