Estate Notes

Schieferkopf's Gewurztraminer 2014 is a classic Alsace Gewurz style - with notes of candied lemon, citrus zest, ginger and passion fruit. A great food wine, particularly with spicy Asian dishes.

Schieferkopf (lit. blue schist) is a joint venture between the Rhône's legendary Michel Chapoutier and a group of wine-loving friends. Chapoutier has always been a huge fan of Alsace wines, in particular the mineral subtlety of the region's wines, and so began planting vines on this 5 hectare domaine in Bernardvillé in 2009, where unique blue schist soil gives poise and austerity to the wines.

As with Chapoutier's Rhône holdings, Schieferkopf is managed under organic and biodynamic principles in order to extract the essence of this fabulous terroir

“Michel Chapoutier crushed his first Alsace grapes in 2009. The estate’s vines are impressively situated and now being impeccably groomed, inter-planted and expanded (not to mention converted to biodynamic culture) as one would expect given Chapoutier’s ambitious practices in other growing regions.”
