Estate Notes

Roc de Cambes 2010 was purchased in its original wooden case.

Roc de Cambes is one of the finest estates in the right bank Bordeaux satelite appellation of the Côtes de Bourg and is under the perfectionist winemaker Francois Mitjavile (proprietor of the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, Le Tertre-Rôteboeuf).

The Côtes de Bourg is a beautiful undulating district dotted with late Medieval fort ruins and commanding stunning views over the Gironde Estuary. Bourg is a lesser-known, underrated Bordeaux district, and, like its neighbour Blaye, its top producers offer very good quality and great value-for-money Claret.

Francois Mitjavile's estate comprises 10 hectares of old vines on a south-facing slope in a natural amphitheatre facing the Gironde. Here, Mitjavile picks his grapes as late as possible to maximise ripeness and concentration, and the resulting wines are rich, stylish and full-bodied.

Reviews

““Sexy aromas of black cherry, plum and cinnamon are lifted by a hint of violet. Less sweet and rich in the mouth than the 2009, but with an attractive violet note complicating the black cherry and spicy plum flavors. Spreads out impressively on the broad back end, finishing with very supple tannins. Another superb Roc de Cambes in the making, but this will need some time in the cellar.” Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar

"I have been a big believer in this Cote de Bourg made by the obsessive/compulsive Francois Mitjavile, who is better known for his outstanding small St.-Emilion estate, Le Tertre-Roteboeuf." eRobertParker.com
