Torbreck

Founded in 1994 by David Powell, Torbreck has risen through the ranks to become one of the greatest producers of Barossa Valley Shiraz.

Named after a forest in Scotland where Powell once worked as a lumberjack, the business has grown from his discovery of a few sections of old vines in 1992 which were on the verge of dying at the time. David nursed them back to strength and now produce small parcels of exceptional fruit which is used in addition to bought-in fruit and acquired vineyards to produce an enviable range of premium wines.

Powell’s love of Rhone valley wines shines through in the intense flavours that his Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro (Mourvedre) vines produce, and comparisons are frequently made between these wines and the famous French region. Indeed, the vines he is responsible for (often through the practice of share farming) are some of the oldest in the world, with those providing the fruit for RunRig ranging in age from 94 to 140 years, and coming from up to eight separate vineyard parcels.
