Screaming Eagle is one of the Napa Valley’s original cult wines; the first vintage being crafted by Jean Philips in 1992 in a plastic trash can. Jean took a sample to Robert Mondavi, who thought it good enough to bottle, and the rest is a very illustrious history.
Screaming Eagle is crafted from Cabernet Sauvignon, from a rocky vineyard east of the Napa River, where high daytime temperatures (to concentrate and ripen fruit) are tempered by cool nights (to give the finished wine elegance and balance). It is, however, incredibly hard to get hold of, and only around 500 cases are made each vintage.
"Screaming Eagle is one of those very rare properties where the bottled wine captures the fullest essence of the fruit just as it tastes at harvest, and that is very, very rare." Robert Parker
