Quinta do Noval

Quinta do Noval, as with other port houses, is situated in the breathtakingly unspoilt and wild Douro Valley in Northern Portugal: where vineyards (or quintas) cling to precipitously steep hillsides. The estate (or house, as port producers are known) was established in 1715, although it was not until the 1931 vintage - arguably the most sensational Port of the twentieth century – that they firmly established themselves as a truly great house.
To this day, Quinta do Noval remains the only Portuguese-owned house to have made its name to any great extent in the British and US vintage Port market. In 1958 Noval was the first house to introduce a late-bottled vintage – the product of a single harvest, aged in barrel for five years.
“The beautiful Quinta do Noval is undoubtedly the most famous port producer…” Robert Parker
