Fattoria La Monacesca
La Monacesca, which is situated in the township of Matelica in the Marche region of central Italy, dates back to 900 AD, when a group of Benedictine monks fled persecution to the Apennine hills to practice viticulture. In the 1960s Casimiro Cifola set about unlocking the mountainside's potential and raising its international profile.
While less well-known than its famous seaside sibling Castelli di Jesi, both Casimiro and Aldo have been at the forefront of Verdicchio's quality renaissance in Matelica. Their Verdicchios compete with Italy's finest white wines: complex and concentrated, yet elegant and refined, our customers have been saying this since the 2001 vintage.
