Château Lynch-Bages

Château Lynch-Bages is sited on Pauillac’s famous gravel plateau in the small village of Bages, just west of the town of Pauillac itself in Bordeaux's left bank district of the Haut-Médoc. Lynch-Bages’ 100 hectares of vineyards produce fine red Bordeaux wines that defy its fifth growth status and are often considered to be of similar quality to many second growths.

The château dates back to the late 17th century, when John Lynch migrated from Ireland to set himself up as a trader of textiles, wool and leather in what was then the busy port of Bordeaux. But Lynch-Bages’ real success story is rooted in the 20th century and the Cazes family. Jean Charles-Cazes, a former baker and banker, bought Bages in the 1930s and it has been in the family ever since. Under the current proprietor, Jean-Michel Cazes, Lynch-Bages has risen to international fame. A proud, gregarious man, Jean-Michel has constantly championed the wines of Lynch-Bages, Pauillac and Bordeaux. So much so, that President Chirac bestowed upon him the country’s highest decoration – a Knighthood in the Legion of Honour.
