Château Léoville Barton
Château Léoville Barton is the stablemate of Langoa Barton and always the subject of comparison but they are definitely two different estates. Langoa invariably shows perhaps a more feminine and accessible side with Leoville being more muscular. In modern times the Château has been remarkably consistent and represents great value.
The Barton estate is situated in the Left Bank appellation of Saint-Julien and has been under the longest family ownership of any Bordeaux châteaux – spanning over 190 years. As Léoville has no cellars, wine for both the Langoa and Léoville labels was made at Langoa. In modern times, under Anthony Barton and his daughter, Lilian, both estates have succeeded in maintaining Barton's reputation for producing traditional fine red Bordeaux wines with great ageing potential, yet relatively small Saint-Julien price tags.
