Pierre Bourée's 2018 Santenay 1er Cru Les Gravieres is an intense, concentrated, aromatic style of Pinot Noir redolent of the Santenay appellation.

Burgundy's Santenay 1er Cru is situated in the Côte de Beaune, adjacent to Chassagne Montrachet in the region's south. Santanay is a fine spa town, as well as a winegrowing centre with 12 premier cru climats, including Les Gravières.

Pierre Bourée still uses old wooden vats rather than stainless steel and the grapes are trodden by foot. And last but not least, Bourée only release their fine wines when they are ready to drink - a very refreshing practice in today's market.

Intense and limpid full ruby colour. First aromas of fresh strawberry and redcurrant fruits with floral musk rose and clove carnation; then undergrowth notes of blackberry and wood mushroom; then oriental spice-box (sandalwood and cinnamon) and mocha; always fresh and mineral with a concentrated core. This minerality underlies the palate showing great finesse with fresh red fruits on the front, broad and deep in the centre, ripe and balanced with luscious fruit enveloping silken tannins; complex spice and sweet earthy sous-bois notes on the development; finishes long and pure with lifted aromatics. An astonishing wine – starts like a Volnay, finishes like a fine Mercurey Clos L’Evêque, with the opulence and spice of Vosne in between.
