Domaine Pierre Bouree, Bourgogne Pinot Beurot (Pinot Gris), Burgundy, France 2018
Spicy opulence and floral quince to the fore. Wonderfully fat and fresh in the mouth; creamy with fine mineral depth, balance and an impressively long, mineral finish.

Pinot Beurot is the local Burgundian name for Pinot Gris, and here is a delicious but extremely rare example as so little remains planted in the Côte d'Or.
Bourée's vines, extending to under a quarter of an acre, are in Couchey at the northern end of the Côte de Nuits. Reminiscent of the aromatic charm of Alsatian Pinot Gris, but more discreet and with Burgundian mineral freshness and expression of being vinified in barrel. More than an intriguing rarity, this is a real gastronomic delicacy to accompany white meats, sweetbreads, or fish in a beurre blanc sauce.
Pierre Bourée still uses old wooden vats rather than stainless steel and the grapes are trodden by foot. And last but not least, Bourée only release their fine wines when they are ready to drink - a very refreshing practice in today's market.
