Estate Notes

Penfolds' St Henri Shiraz 2003 was purchased in its original case and is in excellent condition.

St Henri is part of Penfolds 'Icon and Luxury Range' - a traditional style first created in the early 1950s, and unlike Penfolds Grange it does not use new oak.

St Henri's hasn't succumbed to fashion or commerce over the years and has a long history that continues to excite year after year. The St Henri is characterised by its rich, plush texture when young, gaining soft, earthy, mocha-like characters as it ages. The small proportion of Cabernet, sometimes employed in vintages, in the blend is used to provide structure.

"The 2003 Shiraz “St. Henri” sees no new oak. It was aged for 14 months in large vats and represents the traditional style of winemaking before barriques came into vogue. It offers up meaty, savory aromas, leather, sage, blueberry, and blackberry. Smoothly textured, with excellent depth..."

"...roasted aromas of ripe blackberry, cherry and plum, plus hints of grilled meat and tobacco. Liqueur-like cherry and dark berry flavors betray a touch of warmth, with supple tannins building with air." Stephen Tanzer
