Estate Notes

Penfolds RWT 2008 is in virtually pristine condition and comes in its original tissue wraps.

First released in 1997, Penfolds RWT (Red Winemaking Trial) Shiraz comes from the perfumed, richly textured, seductive Shiraz grown in the west of the Barossa Valley. The result is a wine that helps to redefine Barossa Shiraz at the highest quality level.

Penfolds RWT Shiraz presents an admirable alternative to the multi-regional sourcing and American oak maturation that are hallmarks of Grange, expressing instead, single region Barossa Valley Shiraz matured only in French oak. Its style is opulent and fleshy, contrasting with Grange, which is more muscular and assertive.

“Deep garnet with some purple, the 2008 RWT Shiraz is a little closed and shows dried fruits, blueberry preserves, cola, kirsch, potpourri and allspice. Medium to full-bodied and expressive, it has nice and firm chewy tannins and good length.” Robert Parker

“...dense in the mouth, with brilliant blueberry, plum and white pepper flavors, coming together smoothly on the finish and lingering expressively.” Wine Spectator
