Estate Notes

Penfolds Grange is one of Australia's finest and most famous wines, officially listed as a heritage icon of South Australia: a wine of extraordinary dimension and power. It has maintained its place as Australia's most prestigious red wine over four decades, and each vintage is eagerly awaited by collectors both in Australia and overseas.

Prior to 1989 Penfolds Grange used 'Hermitage' in the label before the European Union banned it from using a recognisable French wine place name.

"The 1985 Grange is a rich, full-bodied, huge, chewy, fleshy wine with high tannin. Although still young and unevolved, its thick juiciness and massive fruit make it accessible. While it will not be a legendary wine, it is an exceptional offering that continues to demonstrate the remarkable consistency of Penfold's Grange Hermitage since the 1976 vintage." Robert Parker

"Atypical of an 11-year-old wine, this is youthful but graceful. It began lean and elegant, but has developed sweet, deep and heady berry, plum, vanilla and spice flavors that swirl through." Wine Spectator
