Estate Notes

Penfolds' Grange 1981 is in very good condition for the year and comes in its original tissue wrapper.

The Grange is one of Australia's finest and most famous wines, officially listed as a heritage icon of South Australia: a wine of extraordinary dimension and power. It has maintained its place as Australia's most prestigious red wine over four decades, and each vintage is eagerly awaited by collectors both in Australia and overseas.

Prior to 1989 Penfolds Grange used 'Hermitage' in the label before the European Union banned it from using a recognisable French wine place name.

Reviews

“Sweet notes of creme de cassis, cedarwood, charcoal, and barbecue spices are followed by a full-bodied, opulent wine displaying heady amounts of alcohol, glycerin, and density in its full-bodied, skyscraper-like texture. I was drinking this wine with great pleasure in the mid-nineties, yet here it is nearly 15 years later, and the wine does not appear to have budged much from its evolutionary state. This is a testament to how remarkably well these wines hold up, and age at such a glacial pace. Grange, Penfolds’ flagship wine, is, by many accounts, the most renowned and world-famous wine produced in Australia….” Robert Parker
