Estate Notes

Penfolds, Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz, 2016 is a classy multi-region and multi-vineyard blend, using grapes from the McLaren Vale, Barossa Valley, Padthway, Wrattonbully, and Robe. Aged for 12 months in seasoned American hogshead barrels.

The origins of the Penfolds estate are set firmly in the medical sphere, and its reputation built up over the course of the 19th century based on the production of wines (often fortified) which were prescribed to patients by Dr Christopher Rawson Penfold who had settled in South Australia in 1844.

“…telltale touch of toastiness, vanilla and cola spice to this youthful, primary red. Its blackberry fruit expression is tinged with fresher red berry notes, and its concentration and silky richness are infused with a plum-fruit quality. A wine for haunch of venison and heartwarming beef casseroles.” Decanter Magazine

“…open for business with a gorgeous nose yielding tons of spice box and berry preserves notes, plus suggestions of licorice and chocolate box. It is soft and supple on entry in the mouth with rounded tannins, rich fruit and a long, spicy finish.”
