Estate Notes

Penfolds Bin 128 Shiraz 2014 is a lovely deep, soft, complex Shiraz style from fruit sourced from the unique terra rossa soils of Coonawarra; a region that exemplifies the elegant and seductive nature of cool-climate Shiraz.

Coonawarra has remained the source of Shiraz fruit for the Bin 128 since the inaugural release of the 1962 vintage. In order to further enhance the regional qualities of Bin 128, the wine is matured in a mixture of new and seasoned French oak hogsheads; a method that was refined during the 1980s when the transition was made from American to French oak, suiting this lovely cool-climate style.

Reviews

"Deep crimson-purple; a complex fusion of blackberry fruit, cedary oak and hints of spice is a promising start, and the medium to full-bodied palate takes the bouquet onto another level. A long way in front of the sometimes skinny or bony Bin 128s of yesteryear. For the record, matured in 100% French oak.” James Halliday

"Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 Shiraz Bin 128 (from Coonawarra) has a good core of pronounced black fruits, loam and tar with chargrill notes plus a hint of black pepper. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is led by structure with a solid backbone, taut fruit and great length, going earthy/peppery on the finish.” eRobertParker.com
