Estate Notes

Le Fonti's 2013 Vito Arturo is a sophisticated Tuscan red oozing quality and refinement, which just keeps getting better with every vintage.

The two-hectare Vito Arturo vineyard produces Le Fonti’s finest grapes from a fantastic situation renowned for producing opulent wines with satin-like tannins. A phenomenal wine, especially given its very modest price.

Le Fonti was bought in the mid 1950s by the Imberti family and the current owners, Franca and Ferdinando also manage a business in Milan but actively follow the work at the estate. They have invested heavily and replanted solely with Sangiovese in the 1990s, and in their search for excellence they appointed young agronomist, Lorenzo Bernini and employ the famed and talented oenologist Paolo Caciorgna. It is particularly warmer here than other Chianti growing areas such as Panzano or Radda, the berries ripen earlier and are perhaps more fleshy and generous.

Reviews

Luxuriant aromas of rose and violet, black-cherry, red fruits and kirsch, with complex savoury spice showing truffle and cigar leaf, supported by a fresh, mineral base. Concentrated ripe palate, freshly balanced and focused on the front, sumptuous fruit centre with velvety aromatic tannins, very deep and mineral beneath; long creamy and lightly macerated development with torrefied spice and kirsch. Delightfully fresh and mineral on the finish with floral lift, very long.
