Le Fonti's Sangiovese 2013 is a great entry-level young vines Sangiovese - a savoury, juicy mouthful with good complexity at a great price, having been aged in oak for six months. A great introduction to this truly impressive range of wines from this stable.
Le Fonti was bought in the mid 1950s by the Imberti family and the current owners, Franca and Ferdinando also manage a business in Milan but actively follow the work at the estate. They have invested heavily and replanted solely with Sangiovese in the 1990s, and in their search for excellence they appointed young agronomist, Lorenzo Bernini and employ the famed and talented oenologist Paolo Caciorgna. It is particularly warmer here than other Chianti growing areas such as Panzano or Radda, the berries ripen earlier and are perhaps more fleshy and generous.
