Estate Notes

Le Fonti’s latest release of its top traditional wine is simply stunning, having spent two years in oak; it is generous, elegant and rich, drinking beautifully now, with more development to come in the bottle.

This quintessential Chianti Riserva forms part of a truly impressive range of wines from this Poggiobonsi stable, whose estate benefits from a particularly warm microclimate here as opposed to other Chianti growing areas such as Panzano or Radda. The berries ripen earlier and are often more fleshy and generous; as a result the wines are often referred to as being Pomerol-like.

Le Fonti was bought in the mid 1950s by the Imberti family and the current owners, Franca and Ferdinando also manage a business in Milan but actively follow the work at the estate. They have invested heavily and replanted solely with Sangiovese in the 1990s, and in their search for excellence they appointed young agronomist, Lorenzo Bernini and employ the famed and talented oenologist Paolo Caciorgna.

Ripe, very mineral and fresh black-cherry, violet, refined spice and delicate savoury notes of fennel and truffle, with fine aromatic purity and mineral depth. Beautifully elegant and proportioned wine, focused on the front palate, creamy broad and deep in the centre with velvety tannins, a freshly balanced development behind, and long aromatic finish.
