Lagneau's 2018 Morgon is one of the most powerful, rich and earthy wines in all of Beaujolais – and the best wines from the Morgon Cru reach Burgundian-like silky complexity with age and Lagneau's fine rendition yields from less than a hectare of 60-year-old vines in the Corcelette zone of the Morgon cru.

Lagneau is a pre-eminent Beaujolais producer, crafting serious Cru wines redolent of its blue schist soils from low-yielding old vines, with concentrated fruits and underlying minerality – a completely different league to the simplistically light, fruity wines of the region's generic appellations and Beaujolais nouveau.

Concentrated, deep and meaty with aromas of blackberry liqueur, black-cherry and damson, floral notes of carnation and violet, and spicy mineral base showing leather and liquorice. Freshly focused front flavours, richly concentrated centre, with creamy integrated tannins, good ripe acidity, and a succulent mineral development full of refined spice, finishing long, lifted and floral. Delectable.

"...Morgon is the village that produces the deepest, most Burgundian of Beaujolais wines - and the Lagneau family has the advantage of a small parcel of 60-year-old vines for this particular wine." Joanna Simon, House &Garden
