Estate Notes

Domaine Lagneau's Beaujolais-Villages Blanc 2014 is made from Chardonnay vines that prosper on limestone and schist subsoils, rather than the usual Beaujolais granite. A great opportunity to taste a rarely seen white Beaujolais - wonderfully ripe and creamy.

Lagneau is a a beautiful family winery backed by rolling hills and forests in a stunning valley, which crafts traditional wines from distinct Beaujolais appellation terroirs. Gérard and Jeannine Lagneau are a wonderful welcoming couple – with Jeannine’s youthful, light-hearted manner offset by the more reserved and serious Gérard, who no doubt saves his energy for his six o’clock starts in the vineyard! Although, their equally charming son, Didier, is coming more to the fore in the winemaking and early morning starts.

In fact, all three Lagneaus work incredibly hard in the fields, with some great terroirs and vines that range from 60-100 years old. All the grapes are hand-picked, and plucked later than many of their neighbours, ensuring only the ripest, most full-flavoured fruit reaches the cellars and ultimately your glass.

Very aromatic, displaying fresh, ripe white fruits (pear) and flowers; creamy, biscuity style, with a smoky, mineral base. Delicious balance with focused front palate, creamy and expressive, good fresh mineral depth on the centre, and aromatic floral and mineral development and finish.
