Estate Notes

The latest release of La Gitana's En Rama Manzanilla (spring 2017) is delicate, yet intense, complex and aromatic with a wonderful salty character gained through the cellars' close proximity to the ocean - it transports you straight to the beachside bars of Sanlucár!

This is sherry at its finest - unfiltered, unfined, pure free run juice directly from the barrel and only released twice a year in extremely limited quantities. It showcases all Hidalgo’s know-how in crafting the most complex, tangiest expression of aged Manzanilla from its highest quality wines.

Bodegas Hidalgo is a small family winery based in Sanlucar, which was established in 1792, currently run by Javier Hidalgo, the sixth generation of the family. Hidalgo specialises in single-solera and single-vineyard bottlings.

"...a new bottling of their NV La Gitana Manzanilla en Rama marked as Saca de Primavera 2017 on its back label (the spring 2017 bottling). With an average of six years under flor, it has a deep golden color and an intense nose followed by a sharp palate, chiseled by the effect of the yeasts. It's a selection of the 35 800-liter oak barrels that compose the La Guita solera. They do two bottlings per year, one in spring and another one in autumn. In spring the wines tend to be more aromatic, open and showy. It has the chalky minerality from the albariza soils. 12,000 bottles produced."
