Estate Notes

Hamilton Russell Vineyards' 2017 release of their stunning Pinot Noir displays an almost Burgundian-like restraint and elegance with New World depth of fruit. A seriously classy Pinot rendition.

Hamilton Russell Vineyards is one of the most southerly wine estates in all of Africa. It was established by Tim Hamilton Russell in 1975 after he searched long and hard for the most southerly site on which to make South Africa’s top cool climate wines from a selection of noble varieties.

The estate pioneered viticulture in the beautiful, cool, maritime, Hemel-en-Aarde Valley appellation behind the old fishing village of Hermanus and specialises in producing highly individual, terroir-driven Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, which are widely regarded as amongst the best in South Africa.

Reviews

Excellently made wine, and almost Burgundian in style. Fine aromas of strawberry and redcurrant, which flow into the mouth. Quite restrained at first, but opens out with a good depth of fruit, lovely, supple tannins and minerality. The finish is broad, expansive and long. A seriously classy Pinot.
