Estate Notes

Hamilton Russell Vineyards' 2017 Chardonnay is a lovely tropical, minerally South African style Chardonnay, with good fruit weight and real vibrancy.

Hamilton Russell Vineyards is one of the most southerly wine estates in all of Africa. It was established by Tim Hamilton Russell in 1975 after he searched long and hard for the most southerly site on which to make South Africa’s top cool climate wines from a selection of noble varieties. The estate pioneered viticulture in the beautiful, cool, maritime, Hemel-en-Aarde Valley appellation behind the old fishing village of Hermanus and specialises in producing highly individual, terroir-driven Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, which are widely regarded as amongst the best in South Africa.

Reviews

Delicious tropical fruits, peach and citrus notes on the nose, and pronounced oak. Medium-bodied, fullish fruit expression, lovely minerality, and a nice vibrancy balancing things out. Finishes long and satisfying.
