Estate Notes

Hamilton Russell Vineyards' 2016 Chardonnay is a lovely minerally South African Chardonnay, with good fruit weight and bright acidity.

Hamilton Russell Vineyards is one of the most southerly wine estates in all of Africa. It was established by Tim Hamilton Russell in 1975 after he searched long and hard for the most southerly site on which to make South Africa’s top cool climate wines from a selection of noble varieties. The estate pioneered viticulture in the beautiful, cool, maritime, Hemel-en-Aarde Valley appellation behind the old fishing village of Hermanus and specialises in producing highly individual, terroir-driven Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, which are widely regarded as amongst the best in South Africa.

The 2016 vintage features unusually prominent pear and lime fruit aromas and flavours, which are brought beautifully into focus by a tight line of bright natural acid and a long, dry minerality.

Reviews

"...less rich than the 2015, yet it displays finer delineation and perhaps more mineralité. The palate is very well balanced with superb tension, brimming full of energy and fanning out with nutmeg and smoked walnut notes towards the somewhat feisty finish.” Robert Parker
