Mascarello's Barolo Monprivato Riserva Cà d'Morissio, 2001 is the greatest of all traditionally made Barolos on the market.
The Riserva Cà d'Morissio is a 'super riserva' crafted from a tiny parcel of Nebbiolo Michet in Monprivato, planted in the mid-1980s after being specially selected from the original 1921 plantings. It is named after Mauro Mascarello's grandfather, Maurizio (Morissio in Piedmontese dialect) who was the first generation to purchase a plot in Monprivato. The 2001 vintage was purchased in its original wooden case.
Mascarello's Monprivatos have been one of Piedmont's benchmark wines for decades in a region known as the Pauillac of Piedmont.
The single vineyard Barolo Cru Monprivato is owned outright by Giuseppe Mascarello and has been a lifelong passion for Mauro. He is revered in his native Piedmont and has remained true to his tradition and beliefs. The Monprivato vineyard produces some of Italy's greatest Barolo and is in fact made up of three sub-varieties of Nebbiolo.
"The 2001 Barolo Riserva Monprivato Ca d'Morissio is a staggering wine of heroic proportions. It's all there in the glass. Dark cherries, flowers, spices and minerals emerge as this powerful, intense Barolo shows off its inimitable pedigree. The 2001 isn' likely to be one of the biggest Ca d'Morissios, but it is impeccable and totally satisfying in every way." eRobertParker.com
