Estate Notes

Mascarello's Monprivato has been one of Piedmont’s benchmark wines for decades in a region known as the Pauillac of Piedmont. The Monprivato is also one of the region's best relative values and is the estate's flagship wine, combining power with finesse on the great limestone soils of the region.

The single vineyard Barolo Cru Monprivato is owned outright by Giuseppe Mascarello and has been a lifelong passion for Mauro. He is revered in his native Piedmont and has remained true to his tradition and beliefs. The Monprivato vineyard produces some of Italy’s greatest Barolo and is in fact made up of three sub-varieties of Nebbiolo comprising of 30% Michét, 45% Lampia and 25% Rosé.

“A perfumed style, boasting floral, cherry, kirsch and licorice flavors. Slightly chewy, yet elegant overall, with fine balance and a lingering finish of macerated cherry, earth and tobacco notes. Shows fine length and intensity, leaving an essence of mineral.” Wine Spectator

“Fashions and trends never affect the style of wines from Mauro and Guiseppe….an estate that has embodied the Langhe tradition since the late 19th century not just from Barolo but also Barbera and Dolcetto. Apparently subtle, rarified right from the colour and at times surprising in their aromatics, they travel through time as few other wines, frequently offering unforgettable experiences to wine lovers with patience.” Gambero Rosso, Italian Wines, 2012
