Fattoria Le Fonti, Chianti Classico, Tuscany, Italy
"...bright and beautifully focused, all in a gracious mid-weight style...lovely red berry fruit character and impeccable balance." Antonio Galloni
|Grape Blend||Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot|
|Winemaker||Paolo Caciorgna - consultant|
Le Fonti's 2017 Chianti Classico is the first vintage of this elegant, medium-bodied Chianti Classico to be fully organic.
This popular Chianti consistently punches above its weight and price with every vintage our experts taste. The 2017 vintage was crafted by one of our favourite consultant winemakers. It is noticeably warmer here than other Chianti areas, the berries ripen earlier and the wines are often referred to as being Pomerol-like.
Le Fonti was bought in the mid 1950s by the Imberti family and the current owners, Franca and Ferdinando also manage a business in Milan but actively follow the work at the estate. They have invested heavily and replanted solely with Sangiovese in the 1990s, and in their search for excellence they appointed young agronomist, Lorenzo Bernini and, of course, the famed and talented oenologist Paolo Caciorgna.
"The 2017 Chianti Classico is bright and beautifully focused, all in a gracious mid-weight style that offers considerable near and medium-term appeal. This vibrant Chianti Classico has much to give. It is an unusually translucent wine for Panzano, with lovely red berry fruit character and impeccable balance." Antonio Galloni
