Estate Notes

Dow's 2003 Vintage Port was purchased in original wooden cases.

For over a century Dow's has followed a policy of investing in premium quality vineyards, and was one of the first port houses to buy quintas (vineyards) in the remote eastern reaches of the Douro valley at the end of the 19th century.

The backbone of Dow's Vintage Port is drawn from the company's finest vineyards - the Quinta do Bomfim and Senhora da Riberia – each property contributing to the wine's unique character and class. Aged in wood for approximately 2 years and bottled unfiltered, Dow's Vintage Ports are considered to be amongst the finest Vintage Ports produced.

"A masculine, broody, smoky nose with macerated ripe cherry developing with aeration. Understated, yet undeniably powerful palate. Quite spicy and more classic in style than other 2003 ports. Wonderful balance with great definition and freshness on the finish. My pick of the 2003's within the Symington portfolio."

"Full ruby. Knockout nose features black cherry, blackberry and licorice pastille. Rich and sappy on the palate, with a suave, velvety texture and unusual power for a young Dow. Flavors of kirsch, minerals and licorice are not at all overly sweet. In fact, this is ultimately quite taut, focused and powerful, with a very firm core of fruit. Finishes firmly tannic, highly aromatic and quite long. A 2003 of outstanding purity and precision, in need of 15+ years of aging. May ultimately merit an even higher score." Stephen Tanzer
