Yann Chave, Crozes Hermitage, Le Rouvre, Rhone, France 2017
"It wouldn't surprise me to see this 2017 turn out to be the most impressive rendition of this consistently outstanding bottling Chave has ever made." Josh Raynolds
|Grape Blend||Syrah 100%|
Yann Chave's Crozes Hermitage Le Rouvre 2017 was purchased in its original cases.
Yann Chave is a passionate organic vigneron, who took over the estate from his father, Bernard, in 2001. Le Rouvre comes from fruit grown in a single parcel of Crozes, where 'caillouteux' reflect the heat to aid ripening, and the vines average 60 years-old. It is a pure 'vin de goutte' (made from free-run wine juice) and is aged entirely in 1-2 year old demi-muids.
"A complex nose. Richer, creamier on the palate too with a distinct mineral note. The older vines have added extra dimension and breadth on the palate. Flavours expand and evolve in the mouth and the intense finish is supremely long. You can drink now but I expect this to be better in 2 years and continue to evolve." David King
"Expansive aromas of fresh black raspberry, cassis, olive, incense and violet, along with an exotic spicy topnote. Juicy and focused on the palate, displaying superb clarity to the sappy dark fruit preserve, floral pastille and spicecake flavors. Definitely powerful, yet there's real liveliness and even a somewhat light touch here as well. Finishes impressively long and sweet, delivering powerful mineral thrust, a cracked pepper flourish and mounting tannins. It wouldn't surprise me to see this 2017 turn out to be the most impressive rendition of this consistently outstanding bottling Chave has ever made." Josh Raynolds
