Yann Chave's 2017 Crozes Hermitage is a lovely silky, velvety style and drinking beautifuuly now. The 2017 vintage was purchased in its original cases.
Yann Chave is a passionate organic vigneron, who took over this Crozes-Hermitage estate from his father, Bernard, in 2001. Yann harvests late in order to achieve maximum ripeness, and consistently produces one of the best-value Crozes-Hermitage available. This traditional cuvée is produced from vines grown on the three village terroirs: Mercurol, La Roche de Glun and Pont de l'Isere.
"Deep red not opaque. Dark fruit nose (black current and black berry) pencil shavings. Excellent balance on the palate. Medium body with modest (but ripe) tannins and decent freshness, giving structure and length in the long and satisfying finish. Drinking very well now and over the next 3 to 5 years." David King
"Pretty consistent year after year, Yann Chave's 2017 Crozes Hermitage continues that tradition. It's fruit forward, marked by black cherry and raspberry aromas and flavors, but includes enough savory black olive notes to maintain a sense of complexity and balance. Medium to full-bodied, it has a velvety feel and a long, spice-driven finish that should ensure pleasure through at least 2023." robertparker.com
"Lurid violet. Spice-tinged dark berry and floral scents, complicated by subtle olive and cracked pepper nuances. Juicy and precise, offering bitter cherry and cassis flavors and a touch of dark chocolate. Dusty tannins sneak in late to add shape and gentle grip to the persistent, spice-laced finish."
