Domaine Michel Bouzereau, Meursault-Blagny Premier Cru, Burgundy, France 2019
The slow ripening process allows the vines to take up that minerality that give this wine an extra dimension. This is a wine that will benefit from a few years in the cellar.
|Grape Blend||Chardonnay 100%|
Domaine Michel Bouzereau et Fils Meursault 1er Cru Blagny 2019 yields from vines in this splendid premier cru high on the Meursault-Puligny border, which are now thirty years old and producing great wine.
The 2019 harvest was 30% less than the generous 2018 vintage. Spring frost hit the vines at a crucial time. However, despite this setback and the hot summer, Jean-Baptiste Bouzereau found that the grapes held juice with higher sugar and acidity than the 2018 vintage. These are bright and intensely flavoured wines enhanced with 12– 18 months in barrel (15-30% new oak).
Another 1er Cru traditionally in high demand, these vines are now over 30 years old and in their prime. With higher altitude (close to the border with Puligny) and the chalk soils, the slower ripening process allows the vines to take up that minerality that give this wine an extra dimension. This is a wine that will benefit from a few years in the cellar.
