Domaine Jean Grivot Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Pruliers 2011
"...verve and mid-palate concentration...intense and seductively textured flavors..." Burghound
|Grape Blend||Pinot Noir 100%|
Domaine Jean Grivot Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Pruliers 2011 was purchased in its original case.
Jean Grivot's exceptionally pure, elegant Pinot Noirs are consistently poised at the pinnacle of premium Burgundy. In past vintages surely more wine bearing the name Nuits-Saint-Georges emerged from négociants or English wine merchants' cellars than the vineyards could conceivably produce. The name has a magical ability to sell bottles, as it became the darling of the English. Today, not everything has changed. Rather poor examples await anyone who buys on the appellation name alone. It pays to be picky about wines from this commune.
Since Etienne took over from his father in 1990 he has traded lesser quality vineyards for more prestigious parcels within Burgundy's best sites and his holdings now cover a staggering 15 different appellations! Etienne practices a gentle and non-intrusive Burgundian winemaking style, believing that dense planting for small crops fully expresses the character of his full, rich Pinot Noir fruit.
"There is lovely complexity to the subtly spiced and distinctly earthy red currant and plum suffused nose. There is plenty of verve and mid-palate concentration to the intense and seductively textured flavors that offer both good size and weight, all wrapped in a firm, balanced and persistent finish. This displays enough Nuits character to remain true to the terroir yet there is virtually no rusticity." Burghound
