Estate Notes

Croix de Beaucaillou is the second wine of Château Ducru-Beaucaillou, comprises 50% of the same grade of fruit that goes into the grand vin, and was purchased in its original wooden case.

Ducru-Beaucaillou is right at the top of the ladder in Saint-Julien, and it is known as a 'Super Second' – a second growth producing wines equal or superior to the illustrious first growths. Ducru-Beaucaillou is named after the beautiful stones (beaux cailloux) found in its unique wine-growing soils, and the château is managed by the affable and welcoming Bruno-Eugene Borie, whose family has owned the estate for 60 years.

“There are 4,000-5,000 cases of Ducru's high quality La Croix de Beaucaillou, which generally contains more Merlot than the grand vin. The 2000 reveals that component in its succulence and flesh. It should age well for 10-12 years. Readers should seek this one out.” Robert Parker
