Craggy Range's 2018 vintage of its entry-level Gimblett Gravels Syrah is a spicy, yet elegant Syrah from the Gimblett Gravels sub-region of Hawkes Bay on the east coast of the North Island. A great introduction to one of New Zealand’s finest estates.
The Gimblett Gravels is renowned for its affinity with southern French varietals, including Syrah and Cabernet, and Craggy Range is at the top of the tree. Fruit for the 2018 vintage was handpicked to ensure quality and aged for 16 months in (20% new) French oak barriques to add complexity, without overpowering the wine.
Craggy Range is a family-owned winery, spectacularly situated in the shadow of Te Mata Peak in the premium Hawkes Bay winegrowing region of New Zealand. Craggy Range produces a portfolio of quality wines including the iconic Prestige, Family and Appellation collections, as well as Limited Editions from exceptional winery-owned vineyards in Hawke’s Bay, Martinborough and Marlborough.
"Thid vintage was matured for 16 months in French oak barriques (20 per cent new). Dense and youthful in colour, it has a floral, peppery fragrance. Mouthfilling and vibrant, with good density of plum, spice and black-pepper flavours, fresh and firm, it’s a classy red, best cellared to 2021+" Michael Cooper
